British Railways Standard Class 9F 2-10-0 No 92247 passes through the now demolished ex-SMJ Fenny Compton station with an eastbound freight

British Railways Standard Class 9F 2-10-0 No 92247 passes through the now demolished ex-SMJ Fenny Compton station with an eastbound freight on 20th February 1965. This photograph was taken in the dying days of the E&WJR route to Stratford as the iron ore services to South Wales were to cease in 1965. This engine is on a Type 7 working and allocated to Banbury shed at the time. British Railways categorised a Type 7 working as an 'Express freight train NOT fitted with the automatic brake. Maximum speed 40 mph. Where fitted vehicles are required to be placed next to the engine and coupled up, this will be shewn in the appropriate Regional train loading instructions'.
