LMS Route: The Shakespeare Route

Ex-LMS 4F 0-6-0 No 44606 is seen approaching Fenny Compton at the head of a freight service from Byfield. Built in March 1941 at Derby works to Lot No 147 as LMS No 4506 this was the very last locomotive of a 772 strong class to be built with some 580 entering service with British Railways in 1948. The locomotive was to remain in service until March 1962 when it was withdrawn from '41E' Barrow Hill shed in Staveley to be scrapped during August 1963 by Horwich works.
