Ex-LMS 8F 2-8-0 No 48474 is seen passing through Ettington station's up platform with a down mineral train on 20th February 1965. One of eighty locomotives ordered by the Wartime Railway Executive to be built by the Great Western Railway at Swindon works in May 1945, No 48474 was allocated to 4A Shrewsbury shed at the birth of British Railways on 1st January 1948. In total 521 locomotives of the 852 members of the class were ordered by the War Department, the Railway Executive and the LNER by 1946 when production ceased. At the timer of the photograph No 48474 was allocated to 84 E Tyseley shed and was to remain in service for two more years being withdrawn in September 1967 from Crewe South shed to be scrapped by J Cashmore's of Great Bridge.
