Ex-LMS 4F 0-6-0 No 44061 exchanges the token with the signalman from Clifford Sidings Signal Box. The signal box is controlling both access to Clifford Sidings which can be seen on the left, but also the loop line which ran into Stratford upon Avon's down platform. As can be seen access to the two sidings is by trailing turnouts from both the down loop line and the up main running line. In order to accommodate a train travelling from the Fenny Compton direction, the train would continue pass the sidings coming to a stop with its guards van stopping just pass the signal and turnout on the down loop line. It would then, once given the right of way, reverse back into the siding to the left of the ground signal disc. This convoluted manoeuvre was necessary as the point blades of turnouts could be split by the wheel of a train passing at speed.
