Close up of image 'mrwo121' showing the staggered platforms and on the left the up platform's small passenger waiting room. The staggered platform layout was most common when there was a level crossing present so its unusual to see that in this instance there is no level crossing. The staggered platform layout was intended to allow trains past the crossing before stopping to embark or disembark passengers thereby allowing the gates to close behind the train and minimise disruption to local road traffic. The platform on the left has only a small passenger waiting room. Access to the platforms was by way of either the footbridge, note the two sets of steps on the left, and via a barrow crossing directly below the bridge. There appears to be a footpath entrance to the station on the left hence the reason for having a flight of steps this side of the footbridge. At the base of the steps is a lamp post with a round whilst the platform has at least four, some of which are positioned mid-distance between the edge and the back of the platform. Does this indicate that there is siding behind? Complementing the staggered platforms are staggered sidings/relief roads. On the left a turnout can be seen whilst on the right, at the end of the platform, there is a crossover and a turnout into another siding/relief road.
