General view of the partly closed station and passenger building seen from the Leicester end of the Hampton branch platform

General view of the partly closed station and passenger building seen from the Leicester end of the Hampton branch platform. The flat roof section of the station building is the gentlemen's latrines, nearly always to be found at one end of a station building with its only access being via a door in the gable end which in this instance has also screened by a modesty wall. Ladies were provided with a separate ladies waiting room which also provided access to their toilet facilities. The building was substantial indicating that it was designed to handle a large number of passengers. Given the rural nature of the locality the Midland Railway must have assumed that it would be handling a large number of transit passengers between the Derby, Leicester, and in part Hampton, routes. The Morris Minor parked on the platform must have crossed the railway via the barrow crossing seen in image 'mrwj1161'. The Hampton branch train seen in image 'mrwj123a' would have been standing at the platform adjacent to where the Morris Minor is standing.
