Ex-LMS 4-4-0 2P No 40463 is seen piloting ex-LNER 4-6-0 B1 No 61195 light engine on 19th April 1954. During the 1950s, it was quite common to see B1 locomotives on the Cleethorpes to New Street expresses and as part of this service they would run to Bournville shed to be prepared for the return journey later in the day. The 2P was a member of the Midland Railway's 483 class of locomotive and was built as MR 463 by Derby works in August 1895 and was to remain in service until August 1956 when it was withdrawn from 21B Bournville shed. Built by the North British Locomotive Company in May 1947, No 61195 was to remain in service until November 1965 when it was withdrawn from 36C Frodingham shed.
