Ex-MR 1F 0-6-0T No 1879 is seen standing on the outer of the two roads that were adjacent to Saltley's No 3 and No 1 roundhouses on 20th January 1934. The building on the right is Saltley No 1 shed, the first of the three roundhouses erected at Saltley. A member of the MR's 1121 class, No 1879 has a tool box on the running plate and its lamp on the left of the bufferbeam indicates its last trip was at the head of a Class 'J' through mineral or empty wagon train. Built by R Stephenson & Company in June 1899 and despite having such a low power rating No 1879 remained in service until March 1960 when it was finally withdrawn from Barrow Road shed in Bristol to be scrapped shortly afterwards.
