Ex-LMS 5MT 4-6-0 No 45308 moves forward from beneath Saltley shed's coaling plant after being coaled. Built as LMS No 5308 by the Armstrong Whitworth Company in January 1937 No 45308 remained in service until August 1967 when it was withdrawn from 5D Stoke-on-Trent shed. On the right is British Railways Sulzer Type 2 D7584 commonly known as 'Rats' as it was alleged they could be seen everywhere in Britain, and hence were as common as rats. In total, 327 locomotives of this type were built between 1961 and 1967.
