British Railways built Ivatt 4MT 2-6-0 No 43108 receives a final oiling by its fireman before it sets off to work

British Railways built Ivatt 4MT 2-6-0 No 43108 receives a final oiling by its fireman before it sets off to work. Built by Doncaster Plant in May 1950, No 43108 remained in service until November 1965 when it was withdrawn from 41J Langwith Junction shed. In the background is ex-WD Austerity 2-8-0 No 90248 which had been built for the War Department in August 1943 by the North British Locomotive Company. Loaned immediately to the LNER by the WD and allocated the running No 77342, it was returned to the WD in February 1945. It too was withdrawn from service in November 1965, but in this instance it was retired from 36C Frodingham shed.
