Schematic diagram showing Redditch South Signal Box's Signal
Diagram and the lever number associated with each signal or point. Bob Essery
writes, at an earlier stage there was a ground frame or stage worked connection
from the up to the down sidings on the station side of signals 17/18 but was
later removed at an unknown date. There was an unusual arrangement which
probably dated from the installation of the ground frame whereby Redditch North
down starting signal was slotted by Redditch South Signal Box. The term
'slotting' describes an arrangement whereby two signal boxes work one signal
and until the second lever is pulled the signal will not clear'. Bob believes
that this was achieved at Redditch by the practice of underbolting, a term used
to describe the mechanical locking of a lever in a signal box.
