When shunting the yard, which was one the other side of the bridge, the road bridge obstructed their view, making the crew blind. It was there necessary for the locomotive crew to be given signals to 'call them on'. A signal arm and ground disc for this purpose can be seen sited beneath the footbridge. The carts and porter's barrows used to move parcels and other items across the lines and also to move them along the platforms to the guard's compartment on passenger trains can be seen standing on the platform.
