The absence of a chimney from a fire or stove would seem to confirm that the railway did not expect many people to use this facility. In all probability passengers using this platform would be returning from Birmingham rather than departing for Leicester or Ashby. The ornate stone surrounding to the window is worthy of note as it reflects a time when the cost of creating such ornate and decorous features was considered to be of not much consequence.
