LMS Route: Birmingham New Street to Nuneaton

Nuneaton Abbey Street Station: mrna45a

Close up showing how passengers were expected to cross the railway lines from one platform to another

Close up of image 'mrna45' showing how passengers were expected to cross the railway lines from one platform to another. Whilst there is a boarded 'barrow crossing' at the end of the platforms this was strictly for staff only. The notice seen at the end of the down platform (on the right) warns passengers not to use the barrow crossing and only to use the steps and the road bridge. The signal gantry has three sets of signals as the arm on the left controls the line to Ashby, the entre arm controls the connecting line to the former LNWR Trent Valley Line and the arm on the right controls the line to Leicester. The Type 4 diesel is standing more or less where the ex-LNWR 0-8-0 locomotive was in image 'mrna48a'.
