LMS Route: Evesham to Birmingham

Harvington Station: mrhv574a

Close up showing the entrance to the passing loop, short shunting spur and loading gauge in greater detail

Close up of image 'mrhv574' showing the entrance to the passing loop, short shunting spur and loading gauge in greater detail. The ground signal controlling traffic exiting the siding and bound for Evesham is seen on the right, but this side has the colour sequence reversed (see image 'mrhv572'), a dark background with a light coloured arm. This aided the driver to know which direction the signal was controlling when viewed at night or in poor weather. The equivalent disc signal controlling access from the loop line to the running for Redditch can be seen in the distance. The loading gauge is not very distinguishable in the above photograph being of a curved shape made out of thin metal and suspended from a metal arm by chains. The gauge was shaped to the loading limits relevant to the line its purpose was to show the station staff and the guard of the train if any loads placed in open wagons hit the gauge when exiting the siding.
