The wagons nearest the camera are all open wagons as they are carrying coal which is relatively unaffected by the weather. The wagons behind these and in front of the warehouse are covered wagons and will be carrying perishable or other goods which need to be protected from the elements. The latter being unloaded inside the warehouse where they will be forwarded directly to the customer (often markets around the city) or stored within the warehouse.
