View of Birmingham Central Good Station's Goliath over head
travelling steam crane and the 1912 offices. The travelling crane and related
sidings are located on the site of the original Worcester Wharf depot. The
change of name from Worcester Wharf to Birmingham Central Goods Station
occurred on 31st May 1892 the same day that the Lifford curve was opened for
traffic. The new curve allowed traffic to run directly to Birmingham Central
Goods Station from the Camp Hill direction without reversing at Kings Norton.
The 1912 offices, framed by the travelling crane, supplemented the original
offices erected in 1893 on Allport Street and in turn were supplemented by
further offices added to the Suffolk Street end of the warehouse.
