Bournville Shed: mrb485

Diverging tracks serving the shed and yard at Bournville were photographed from a northbound train on Saturday 1st June 1957

Bournville shed's yard was well photographed from a northbound train on Saturday 1st June 1957. The height of the train gave a clearer view of the layout than that of photos taken at ground level. The foreground is dominated by the shed's arrival and departure lines, which converged at each end of the yard. At the northern end was the connection to the up main line, out of view past the signal box, and at the southern end a head shunt, also out of view, with no connection back to the main line. Sets of points controlled by ground frames, independently of the signal box, allowed engines and wagons to be moved around within the yard. For close up views and more description see image 'mrb485a' and image 'mrb485b'. For a map of the layout see image 'mrb1511'.
