The station nameboard, also called a 'running in board' was erected by British Railways circa 1954 and was painted a maroon background with cream/straw lettering. Each region of British Railways had their own colour. The regional colours were:

  • Midland Region - Maroon
  • Scottish Region - Light blue
  • North Eastern Region - Tangerine
  • Eastern Region - Light Green
  • Southern Region - Dark Green
  • Western Region - Brown (although they did try black as an experiment for Western Region signs).

The concrete electric lamps were also erected under British Railways' patronage.
