Bournville Station: mrb477

Bournville station photographed from the southern end of the down platform on Sunday 11th March 1956. The brick built buildings on the up platform date from 1885, when the line was doubled. The down platform also dates from 1885, made narrower than usual because of the proximity of the canal. This was not too problematic as passengers using this platform were more often alighting than boarding. A canopy was provided to shelter the latter while waiting for their train. The station could be exited at either end from both platforms. On the left side of the view part of Cadburys' factory can be seen through the leafless trees. On the right side, behind the canopy, are warehouses, also belonging to Cadburys. The bridge in the distance carried their private railway over the main line. The station survived the Beeching cuts and today is served by trains on the electrified Cross City route.
