Ex-LMS 5XP 4-6-0 No 45690 Leander heading south past Bournville shed in an undated photo from the 1950s. The train was almost certainly bound for Bristol, as No 45690 was a Bristol based engine. The photo must have been taken between 1956 and 1959, probably in summer. The maroon corridor coach livery was introduced in 1956 and the shed was closed in early 1960. Vegetation to the right of the train is green, indicating summer growth. Bristol based Jubilees were an everyday sight on this former Midland Railway main line, heading express trains to and from Yorkshire and the north-east. Bournville shed was still in use as an engine can be seen inside it. LMSR No 5690 was completed at Crewe in March 1936, becoming British Railways No 45690 in May 1948. It was withdrawn from service from Bristol shed in March 1964. It was not broken up and has been privately preserved by enthusiasts.
