LMSR 3MT 2-6-2T No 91 seen standing in the yard at
Bournville, looking very new, on Saturday 15 June 1935. The proud crew were
obviously willing to pose on the footplate of their new charge and be included
in the picture. It had been built at Derby in May that year and Bournville was
probably its first allocation. WL Good also photographed two former LTSR 2P
4-4-2Ts on shed the same day. Their sojourn at Bournville was probably nearly
over as No 91 and engines like it were to take their place on the shed's
suburban duties. No 91 became British Railways No 40091 in November 1948, by
which time it was no longer a Bournville engine. It was eventually withdrawn
from Blackpool shed in October 1961. The engine remained intact until January
1963, when it was broken up by the Central Wagon Company of Wigan.
