Ex-MR 4P 4-4-0 No 1025 photographed heading an eight coach
train near Bournville on Wednesday 9th April 1930. The leading coach is a
clerestory type, which let light into the carriage through the roof. The
projecting part may be a ducket for the guard to look out from. The engine was
one of forty-five former Midland Railway three cylinder compound 4-4-0s. This
one was built in May 1906 at Derby. The number carried on the cab's side,
indicates that it had been recently repainted, as before 1928 the number would
have been carried on the tender's side. The engine was one of the last
survivors of the class, being withdrawn as British Railways No 41025 in January
1953.
