Bournville Shed: mrb1a

A line of locomotive coal wagons standing on the embankment at the end of the coaling shed's siding

Close up of image 'mrb1' showing the line of loco coal wagons standing on the embankment at the end of the coaling shed's siding viewed from the back of the depot. As can seen above seven fully loaded wagons would be shunted in place on a raised embankment sufficiently high enough so that the coal can be off-loaded into the locomotive's tender or bunker. Each wagon would in turn be moved by manpower into the coaling area where it would emptied and then stored on the far side of the coaling shed until replaced by the next train of loco coal wagons.
