Ex-MR 4P 4-4-0 Compound No 1004 is seen coming off shed to
run light engine to New Street on 2nd March 1935. Built by Derby works in
November 1903, No 1004 remained in service until February 1952 when it was
withdrawn from 20E Manningham shed to be scrapped by Derby circa 1952.
Forty-five Midland Railway Compounds were built to be joined by a further one
hundred and ninety-five locomotives built by the LMS which were almost
identical. The most obvious difference being the driving wheel diameter which
was reduced from 7 ft 0 in on the Midland Railway locomotives to 6 ft 9 in on
the LMS versions.
