An LMS Cadbury's excursion to Bournville has arrived at the
down platform, headed by an ex-MR 3P 4-4-0. The passengers have got off the
train and are all looking in the direction of the photographer, waiting for him
to take their picture. The date is uncertain, for the LMS offered midweek half
day excursions to Cadburys from various stations on its system from as early as
October 1927. Such visitors were usually given a guided tour of the more
interesting parts of the works and a charabanc tour of the Bournville area,
with tea being provided and and a parting gift of Cadbury's products. Their
excursion would have been scheduled to depart in the evening from New Street
station, which they could get to using any LMS service from Bournville. This
left them some free time to spend where and how they pleased.
