View of part of the burnt out booking office sited on the bridge and the island platform serving both fast lines. This photograph, taken in 1955, shows the fire damaged booking hall to have no roof. The stairs to both platforms appear not to have been damaged and still retain their lead roof. The station signs are standard LNWR in design not being replaced until the station was rebuilt which was later than many other stations in the area. (1954 appears to be when most stations received the BR totem signs). This may well be because the fire damage caused the railway authorities to defer any modifications until the bigger issue of replacing the booking office had been resolved.
