Looking towards Coventry from the Birmingham end of the up
platform showing the canopy to the down platform cut back on the right as seen
on 25th May 1963. Both platforms appear to have had a brick structure built at
the Birmingham end of the canopies. The amount of traffic using the slow
platform presumably had reduced to the stage where when faced with repairing or
renewing the slow platform canopy it was decided the most appropriate action
was to cut it back. The line to the hump which was adjacent to the slow line
was still in use up to the early 1960s. Within a few years this view would
change significantly when the platform buildings, together with the main
station building, would be swept away with both the hump road and the slow down
line removed. The new station building was constructed on Frederick Road which
was off Victoria Road. Access to the station was then via a stepped pathway
which crossed the old formation to access the down platform.
