Ex-LMS 2-6-0 5MT 'Mogul' No 42974 is seen with a guards van behind the tender shunting in the up yard of Stechford station on 31st May 1961. The yards extensive sidings and goods shed can be seen in this photograph reflecting the large and varied amount of goods traffic once handled in this part of Birmingham. An Aston Shed (21D) engine at the time, No 42974 was built at Crewe works in January 1934 and remained in service until September 1965 when it was withdrawn from the Cheshire Lines Committee Heaton Mersey shed to be scrapped in December 1965 by TW Ward Ltd of Beighton near Sheffield.
