Close up of image 'lnwrsoho2199' showing Soho Station signal cabin and the sidings which could cater for up to 150 wagons. In front of the signal cabin and at an unusually low level, are upper quadrant signals controlling the exit from the station on the down line. The signals are thus positioned because the drivers of trains entering the yard from the direction of the station would have very confined vision being both in a cutting and being obstructed by the Soho Street overbridge. However the very tall signals are for the up line and placed on the opposite side to normal because of the curve. Similarly they are placed very high to allow drivers of trains from the direction of Wolverhampton to New Street maximise their vision over the footbridge and general clutter in the yard.
