Ex-MR 2F 0-6-0 No 23006 is seen on the branch facing towards Harborne as it runs around the guards van in 1949. The shunters pole leaning against the guards van, more properly known as the goods brake van, probably indicates that the engine driver and fireman will soon be sharing a meal break with the guard. The goods brake van is one of William Stanier's first design for the LMS. The 1931 Appendix stated that: When wagons are being drawn out of the siding drivers must be careful to start without a jerk. It continued: Traffic for the siding will be put in at the Harborne end. Traffic from the siding will be taken out of the Birmingham end. LMS engines must not go beyond the gate leading to the sidings at either end. No freight train which has to be crossed by another at Rotton Park Road must exceed ten wagons from Monument Lane or Harborne.
