Rugby Shed: lnwrrm933

LMS Fowler 7F 0-8-0 No 9674 complete with boiler mounted water heater stands alongside the Signal Depot Yard shed. Nicknamed the 'Austin 7' this standard LMS design was part of the LMS' attempt to build an improved LNWR G2 0-8-0 goods engine. Unfortunately it had all of the inherent MR faults such as having too small bearing surfaces on the axles resulting in overheating. Built at Crewe works in July 1932 No 9674 remained in service until February 1960 when it was withdrawn from Agecroft shed to be scrapped in May 1960 at Horwich Works.
