LMS 4-6-0 Royal Scot class No 6137 'Vesta' in original condition is about to pass under the GC birdcage at the head of the up Royal Scot

LMS 4-6-0 Royal Scot class No 6137 'Vesta' in original condition is about to pass under the GC birdcage at the head of the up Royal Scot on 18th August 1928. The original names of the Royal Scot class were based on names from locomotives from the dawn of the railway erea. These were quickly deemed to lack the necessary gravitas that these large engines required so they were named primarily after British Army Regiments. Number 6137 'Vesta' therefore was quickly renamed 'The Prince of Wales Volunteers (South Lancashire)'. This was another of the North British Locomotive's contribution built to order 23632 in October 1927 remaining in service until October 1962 when it was withdrawn from Carlisle Upperby shed for scrapping by Crewe works in May 1963.
