This close up of image "lnwrrm774" shows LMS 4-6-2 Stanier Pacific No 6243 'City of Lancaster' dwarfing the ex-LNWR 2-4-2T standing in the Stafford bay. The coal piled high in the tender just meets the loading gauge which together with the smoke being produced would seem to indicate that the locomotive has only just recently joined the train. The reasoning being that the coal should after 82 miles be lower and probability out of sight and the smoke should be a lot clearer being burnt off a incandescent fire. 29th May 1948
