LMS 8P 4-6-2 Coronation class Stanier Pacific No 6243 stands at the head of a down express on 29th May 1948. Built originally in streamlined condition at Crewe works in May 1940 No 6243 was out-shopped in war time plain black livery and lasted in service until withdrawn from Edge Hill shed in Liverpool in October 1964 for scrapping at the Central Wagon Company at Ince near Wigan in July 1965.
