LMS 4-6-0 Royal Scot class No 6126 'Royal Army Service Corps' is seen at the head of an up express near Newbold troughs

LMS 4-6-0 Royal Scot class No 6126 'Sanspareil' is seen at the head of an up express near Cathiron circa early 1930s. Locomotive No 6120 has a 'cranked' style of smoke deflectors and is yet to receive the Stanier tender which provided a better visual balance to the large boiler. Built by the North British Locomotive company in September 1927 it remained in service until October 1963 when it was withdrawn from Annesley shed for scrapping the following month at Crewe works. John Hyde writes to correct the original description's name and location, 'The photo of No 6126 was taken on a glass plate by HW Robinson. The location is between Cathiron, in the distance, and Easenhall. The train is on the down line and is headed by No 6126 'Sanspareil' before being renamed 'The Royal Army Service Corps' in June 1936.
