A 1929 view of the wooden bridge and the two signal boxes which because of their location were rarely photographed. The signal box on the left is a Midland Railway signal box controlling the line to and from Leicester, whereas the signal cabin on the right is Rugby No 6 Signal Cabin controlling access into the yard. Mike Hollick writes, 'there were three Midland Railway signal boxes, the first being opened as 'Rugby Signal Box' before 16th August 1877 and named 'Rugby'. It was renamed 'Midland Goods Yard Signal Box' circa 1977-8 before being closed on 5th June 1886 when the second box was opened but now named 'Rugby Midland Signal Box'. The third signal box, which is seen above, was also named 'Rugby Midland Signal Box' when it opened 29th March 1925. This signal box and Rugby No 6 Signal Cabin were closed 19th April 1935 as part of economic measures. The term 'cabin' was used by both the LNWR and GCR whereas most other railway companies used the term 'box', although there are frequent occasions when the LNWR also used the term 'box'.
