Ex-LMS 4-6-0 5XP No 45541 'Duke of Sutherland, is about to be turned on Rugby's turntable on 1st April 1961. The shed modernisation programme introduced by the LMS in the 1930s saw in addition to coaling and ash disposal facilities new vacuum powered turntables being provided. Being very exposed the LMS have also provided a shelter fixed to the turntable too. Built as LMS No 5541 by Crewe works in August 1933, it received its British Railways number in April 1948 which it retained until June 1962 when it was withdrawn from 2B Nuneaton shed to be scrapped. It was the prototype chosen by Hornby Models when they first introduced their tender powered model in the 1979.
