Ex-LMS 4-6-2 Coronation Class No 46251 'City of Nottingham' stands at the head of an up working to Euston. John Kirby, the photographer, writes 'the fireman was I think called Eric. He lived at the same hostel attached to Rugby shed as I did. Some of the fellers in the hostel used to give him a bit of a hard time because of his race but he took it in good heart'. For a close up of Eric see image 'lnwrrm3161'. Built at Crewe works in June 1944, No 46251 remained in service until September 1964 when it was withdrawn from 5A Crewe North shed to be scrapped by J Cashmore of Great Bridge. John would welcome the chance to put names to faces and especially being able to meet up with former mates. Please use our guest book to contact us. |
