Ex-LNWR 0-8-0 G2a No 49350 is seen on 8th August 1961 shunting in the down yard beneath the footbridge which carried Black Path over the railway

Ex-LNWR 0-8-0 G2a No 49350 is seen on 8th August 1961 shunting in the down yard beneath the footbridge which carried Black Path over the railway. The driver struggling with the wheel reverser is Joe Leeming. Built in January 1903 by Crewe works as LNWR No 1224, a B Class four cylinder compound locomotive, No 49350 was converted to a simple expansion locomotive in January 1921 when it was rebuilt as a G1 Class locomotive. It was renumbered November 1927 by the LMS as No 9350 at the same time it gained a Belpaire boiler and was again rebuilt in March 1946 as a G2a Class locomotive which it remained until December 1962 when it was withdrawn from 9D Buxton shed.
