LNWR 4-4-0 Precursor Class No 1363 'Brindley' pilots LNWR 4-6-0 Prince of Wales Class No 266 on an up express

LNWR 4-4-0 Precursor Class No 1363 'Brindley' pilots LNWR 4-6-0 Prince of Wales Class No 266 on an up express from Fleetwood to Euston circa 1922. Designed by Whale, No 1363 was built at Crewe works in October 1905 and at first carried the name 'Cornwall' which was replaced in May 1911 with 'Brindley'. After being renumbered by the LMS in August 1927 as No 5272, it was again renumbered, in October 1936 as LMS No 25272 which it carried until it was withdrawn from service in December 1939. As seen above, the Precursor has been rebuilt with a superheater and piston valves making it identical to a George except for the splasher. Designed by Bowen-Cooke No 266 was built by William Beardmore and Company in Glasgow in October 1921, was renumbered in December 1926 by the LMS as No 5784 and again in August 1934 as No 25784 which it carried until withdrawn from service in August 1936.
