LNWR 4-6-0 Claughton Class No 1096 is seen approaching Rugby on a down express circa 1922. Built by Crewe works in May 1920, No 1096 was renumbered as LMS No 5987 in January 1927 to make way for the LMS 4-4-0 4P Compound Class of locomotives which it carried until it was withdrawn in August 1932.
