LNWR 4-4-0 George V Class No 984 'Carnarvon' pilots LNWR 4-6-0 Claughton Class No 1133 on an up express from Liverpool to Euston

LNWR 4-4-0 George V Class No 984 'Carnarvon' pilots LNWR 4-6-0 Claughton Class No 1133 on an up express from Liverpool to Euston. Designed by Bowen-Cooke and built by Crewe works in May 1915, No 984 was renumbered in February 1927 by the LMS as No 5402 which it carried until it was withdrawn from service in June 1936. The name 'Carnarvon' was the anglicised version of Caernarvon which was the older version of the name of the town in North Wales currently known as Caernarfon. It was allocated to be on the duplicate list as No 25402 but was withdrawn before the renumbering could be carried out. Claughton No 1133 was also designed by Bowen Cooke and was built at Crewe works in April 1920 and after being renumbered by the LMS as No 5989 remained in service until November 1934 when it was withdrawn from service, a casualty of the new superior Stanier classes being introduced.
