British Railways Britannia Class 4-6-2 No 70016 'Ariel'
passes through Rugby on an up Type 3 working on 15th September 1962. The train
reporting codes used the position of the lamps on the front of the locomotive
to indicate the type of working. British Railways produced three variants in a
very short period of time. Initially the regions followed where applicable the
practices of the big four but in 1958, 1960 and 1962 British Railways produced
their own version. In 1962 a Type 3 working indicated that the train was
'Parcels, fish, fruit, horse, livestock, meat, milk, pigeon or perishables
train composed entirely of vehicles conforming to coaching stock requirements.
Empty coaching stock train (not specifically authorised to carry '1'
headcode).
