Ex-LMS 5MT 4-6-0 No 45434 pilots unknown classmate on an up express service in October 1964. Electrification of the West Coast Route is well underway resulting the withdrawal of the larger former LMS Pacific locomotives. Built as LMS No 5434 by Armstrong Whitworth in November 1937 No 45434 remained in service until August 1966 when it was withdrawn from 5B Crewe (South) shed.
