Ex-LMS 5MT 4-6-0 No 45000 is seen standing 'cold' outside of one of Rugby's shed on 15th March 1953. The locomotive was not actually the first of the 842 very successful 'Black 5s' to appear. The batch ordered from the Vulcan Foundry No 5020 to No 5065 began to emerge in 1934 a year earlier than those built at Crewe No 5000 to No 5019. Built at Crewe works in March 1935 No 45000 remained in service until October 1967 when it was withdrawn from 10D Lostock Hall shed to be preserved by the National Railway Museum, York.
