An internal view of Rugby's Fitting workshop showing several ex-LMS and BR Standard locomotives being repaired

An internal view of Rugby's Fitting workshop showing several ex-LMS and BR Standard locomotives being repaired. The clutter of locomotive parts spread across the floor combined with a range of equipment made the workshop a hazardous place to work. Walk ways which needed to be kept clear at at all times were denoted by the white lines painted on the floor. The two locomotives nearest the camera being repaired ex-LMS 4-6-0 5MT Stanier 'Black 5' No 45331 on the left and ex-LMS 2-8-0 8F No 48719 on the right. In the distance and unidentified is BR Standard 9F 2-10-0, a BR Standard 4-6-0, a 2-6-4T locomotive plus two others of unknown origin. Built by Armstrong Whitworth in March 1937, No 45331 was never allocated to Rugby and therefore her visit is most likely to be a scheduled repair. Allocated to 2D Banbury shed in October 1965, No 45331 was moved in August 1966 to 8F Springs Branch shed in Wigan from where she was withdrawn in November 1967. Built as LMS No 8719 by the Southern Railway's Brighton works in August 1944 No 48719 was to remain in service until August 1965 when it was withdrawn from 2F Bescot shed having been allocated to Aston Shed in October 1957 followed by Bescot shed in November 1964.
