The concrete building on the right was one of a number of huts scattered around the yard to provide mess accommodation for the shed's staff. The wooden poles had twin purposes, they provided a location for electric lighting as well as supporting telephone wires. The level of lighting would be inadequate by today's standards and in particular during those periods of fog and smog which occurred frequently prior to the Clean Air Act of 1960.
