War Department 8F 2-10-0 No 3699 is seen being turned on the turntable at Nuneaton during the Second World War

War Department 8F 2-10-0 No 3699 is seen being turned on the turntable at Nuneaton during the Second World War. A total of one hundred and fifty members of the class were built. During running-in they worked in Britain, but their length made them unsuitable so most of the class saw service with the British Army in France after D-Day. Twenty-five of them were absorbed into British Railways' stock in 1948 as No 90750 to No 90774. Built by the North British Locomotive Company in March 1944, No 3699 was renumbered by the War Department as No 73699 in 1945 and is believed to have been sold to the Netherlands where it had a very short working life being withdrawn in February 1951.
