Close up of image 'lnwrns3812' showing the elevated cabin of Nuneaton's ash plant which contained the hoisting gear. This was a design if not initiated by Bowen-Cooke then was modelled on his 'elevator' type introduced at Upperby shed in 1919 and repeated at several locations across the country. Hawkins and Reeve wrote in LMS Engine Sheds Volume One 'The L&NWR' 'the design comprised a corrugated iron housing on girder supports with an ash bucket raised by a motor inside the housing. Despite Nuneaton being an ex-L&NWR shed, the above design is very similar to the two photographs of Derby's ash disposal plant (an ex-Midland Railway shed) illustrated on page 14 in their book. Indicating that the design was most likely introduced under the auspices of the LMS.
